Project Description: In addition to application by brush, apply shellac can be applied by wiping, spraying or aerosol application. Please refer to “How to Apply Shellac by Brush” for additional instructions. |
|
| Project Steps: |
| Step 1 - Shellac Application by Wiping |
Use a lint-free cloth, folded to form a pad that can easily fit into the palm of your hand. Pour a small quantity of shellac onto the cloth and wipe smoothly and evenly into the wood, following the direction of the grain. Stop wiping when surface is evenly coated and begins to feel tacky. Apply two or more subsequent coats to achieve desired finish.
|
| Step 2 - Shellac Application by Sprayer |
Many professionals and experienced DIYers apply shellac using a conventional, HVLP or airless spray system. For best results when spraying, thin 3-lb. shellac to a 2-lb. cut by adding two parts alcohol to five parts of shellac.
For convntional and HVLP sprayers use the same pressure and tip size as used for lacquer or consult manufacturer’s operation guide. For airless sprayers, use a .011 to .013 tip and 800 to 1000 psi.
Apply shellac evenly to the surface in thin, overlapping passes. Allow each coat to dry at least one hour before applying another coat. Apply two or more subsequent coats to achieve desired finish.
|
| Step 3 - Shellac Application by Aerosol |
Clear Bulls Eye® Shellac is available in a handy 12-ounce aerosol for application to small or hard-to-reach surfaces. It is ideal for craft projects, dried flowers and other hobby projects.
Test spray on scrap surfaces to determine touch and spray pattern. Spray with an even, stroking motion, holding can 10 to 12 inches from object. Depress valve completely to ensure full atomization. Avoid prolonged application in one spot to avoid sags and runs. For best results, apply three coats.
